We are a group of 4 university students majoring in social work. This project is in fact a group project that we all have to commit to in order to pass the course about working with people with disabilities. Yet we do not want to be selfish, we learn from the project but we also want to share our progress and also our investigations with others. Therefore, we established this blog and we called it the AccessibleCommunityProject(ACP).
"How accessible is your community for people with disabilities?"
This is a question we asked ourselves before we come up the idea of this project.
In fact, before the ACP popped up in our mind, we were planning to interview people with disabilities in order to write a report on how these people deal with daily difficulties, then by studying the interviews we hoped to provide suggestions for facilities providers.
Without giving up the original idea, we adopt another better approach. Instead of interview, we want to experience. We aim to have greater understanding and sympathy of their situations by using experience learning. We hope to composite a range of activities which generate more diverse aspects of experiences. However, due to limited resources, we will only commit as visual and physical disability. During experiment, members will achieve different tasks, e.g.using computer, dining out, going to cinema and etc, and record their reflections and comment on the related facilities.
